Jersey 2017 Jersey Bee Keepers Centenary Honey Scented Stamps

Issue date 03 October 2017

The honey scented Miniature Sheet issued by Jersey Post on the occasion of 100 years of the Jersey Bee Keepers Association, features an illustration showing the three different castes of honey bee; queen, drone and worker bee, with the worker bee featured on the hexagonal stamp. On rubbing the hexagonal stamp the infused honey scent is released.

Tête-Bêche Stamps

In Philately - Tête-Bêche (French for head to tail) is a joined pair of stamps in which one is upside-down in relation to the other, produced intentionally or accidentally. Like any pair of stamps, a pair of tête-bêches can be a vertical or a horizontal pair. In the case of a pair of triangular stamps, they cannot help but be linked "head-to-tail".

Canada 2017 History of Hockey Tête-Bêche Stamps

Canada Post in a joint issue with USPS has issued a Tête-Bêche pair of Stamps celebrating the history of hockey shared by both countries. This is the sixth joint issue for Canada Post and the USPS.

The stamp format is tête-bêche – a joined pair of similar images in which one is upside down. On an open pond, a player in modern equipment reflects, literally, on the past. Mirrored in the ice beneath him is a player in vintage gear. The imaginative imagery gives a visual sense of looking back through time. The paired images also depict the game's evolution.

The selvage – or area outside the stamps on the souvenir sheet – depicts a father teaching his daughter how to play on a pond. "History of Hockey" appears on the bottom left corner of the sheet, with the flags of Canada and the United States in the top right-hand corner.

Canada 2017 Canadian Hockey Legends Trading Card Stamps

Canada Post to honour the Canadian Hockey Legends has issued a trading Card size stamps featuring  Jean Béliveau, Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe, Lemieux, Orr, and Maurice Richard. Each is shown celebrating an NHL championship by posing with the Stanley Cup, Hockey's most-coveted prize is included in honour of the cup's 125th anniversary.

In this series issue only signed stamps with hologram is that of Bobby Orr and Mario Lemieux.

Canada - India 2017 Diwali Stamps

On the occasion of Diwali, Indian Festival of Lights, a joint issue of stamps was made by Canada Post and India Post. Of the Joint Issue a siamese issue was printed in Canada featuring International Postage CAD 2.50 for Canada and Rupees 25 for the India Stamp.

I do not usually collect these stamps but these have been issued my home country Canada.

United Kingdom 2017 Machin Definitive Golden Anniversary Celebration Stamp Sheet

he Golden Anniversary Celebration Stamp Sheet features seven stamps: 

5p – A range of low-value stamps, including 5p, was issued on ‘Decimalisation Day’, 15 February 1971. 

20p – The double-head 20p stamp was issued as part of a range of values on 10 January 1990 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Penny Black. 

1st Class – On 19 October 1993, the first self-adhesive stamp issued by Royal Mail appeared in books of 20. The format was landscape. 

1st Class – On 6 January 2000, a new setting of the Machin portrait on a white background was issued to mark the millennium. 

1st Class – A change to the way postal charges were calculated, known as ‘Pricing in Proportion’, led to the release of new 1st and 2nd Class definitives on 1 August 2006. 

1st Class – On 3 January 2013, the colour of the 1st Class Machin definitive was changed from gold to red with an iridescent overprint. 


£1 – This £1 stamp, issued on 5 June 2017, is based on the high-value range of 1969 and is printed using gold foil.

United Kingdom 2017 Machin Definitive Anniversary 50 Years of a Design Icon Stamp Sheet

The 50 Years of a Design Icon Stamp Sheet features six stamps at First Class values with essays, preliminary sketches and photographs from 1966.

January 1966 – One of the many preliminary sketches by Arnold Machin based on the Penny Black.

February 1966 – Preparatory work by Machin using a photograph of his coin mould. 

April/May 1966 – One of many essays with the ‘Coinage’ head surrounded by country symbols. 

October 1966 – Essay of the ‘Coinage’ head cropped and simplified, with only the denomination. 

August 1966 – Photograph by John Hedgecoe with HM The Queen wearing the diadem. 

October 1966 – Essay of the first plaster cast of the ‘Diadem’ head, without corsage.

To renew interest in the Star Wars Movies franchise, Royal Mail has issued a set of special Stamps as part of bigger Star Wars set featuring the droids which have appeared in the Star War  movies. These Stamps features UV printing some aspect of  stamps appear when seen under UV light

BB-8

Location: Jakku

The plucky droid named BB-8 is a loyal companion to Resistance fighter Poe Dameron in the fight against the First Order. Assigned to Poe to provide flight assistance when piloting his X-wing fighter, BB-8 is separated from his master in a deadly battle with Kylo Ren. Forced to seek new allies, the droid runs into a scavenger named Rey and a renegade stormtrooper called Finn. 

R2-D2

Location: Coruscant / Grievous's flagship interior

This trusty little droid has had an adventurous life, first on board Queen Amidala’s ship during the Battle of Naboo, then in the Clone Wars alongside Anakin Skywalker, and with Luke Skywalker in the fight against the Empire. In recent years, R2-D2 has been in a state of semi-retirement, secretly harbouring the only map that pinpoints the whereabouts of Luke Skywalker.

C-3PO

As a boy on Tatooine, Anakin Skywalker built a protocol droid as a helper for his mother. C-3PO became an expert in matters relating to diplomacy, but he was not equipped for a life of excitement, danger and adventure. Thrust into battles during the Clone Wars and the Rebellion against the Empire, this reticent, nervous droid has time and again helped his friends save the day.

K-2SO

A reprogrammed Imperial security droid with a bluntly honest way of talking, K-2SO is firmly on the side of the Rebel Alliance in the fight against the Empire. K-2SO’s ability to blend in when doing reconnaissance work behind Imperial lines is a distinct advantage. He can pilot many types of spaceship and scan and access Imperial communications systems

Indonesia 2017 Bandung World Stamp Exhibition Wood MS

The World Stamp Exhibition was held in Bandung City, Indonesia from 3rd to 7th August 2017. During the exhibition a special wood Miniature sheet featuring the exhibition logo flower Patra Komala (Caesalpinia Pulcherrima) was issued. This was sold as part of an entire set of philatelic products issued during the exhibition on the final day of the exhibition. Only 500 sets has been produced.

The stamp is imperforate and the stamp holes on the stamp are meant just for display.

Portugal 2017 Textile Industry

To commemorate the Portuguese Textile Industry CTT Portugal has issued a special Souvenir Sheet made with the Flock technique, which is achieved by spreading fibers on top of a gummed paper.

This provides a velvet appearance to the printing area that, when presented to the touch, resembles the smoothness and softness of the cotton.

Switzerland 2017 Letter vs E-mail Selfie Stamp sheet

Swiss Post in a competition with the students completing a consolidation course in visual communication at the Zurich University of the Arts, has designed a special sheet of 20 stamps which form a tablet that reflects the face of the observer giving the impression of taking a selfie.

The stamps have been printed on reflective Aluminium Silver foil.

Switzerland 2017 Quince Scented Stamp

Quince or the Cydonian Apple has a similar appearance to a pear, and is bright golden-yellow when mature. The miniature sheet displays the color and the form of the fruit and captures the fragrance of the fruit when the special lacquer of the fruit is rubbed.

Isle of Man 2017 Bloodhound Car 

Issue date 22 September 2017 

To commemorate the BLOODHOUND project set to make a new land speed world record of 1000mph, IOM Post has issued a special miniature sheet. 

The sheet includes two stamps and two labels, with one featuring the legendary Richard Noble and current world record holder Andy Green, BLOODHOUND’s driver. Behind the images lie technical line drawings underlining that this miniature sheet is a showcase of engineering prowess as well as the ambition of setting new records.

To ensure the miniature sheet reflects technical innovation it includes three special print finishes; metallic ink, varnish and thermochromic ink, which disappears when heated to reveal the inside of the BLOODHOUND car.
