Stamps with Hidden image - Update

Subcategory - Stamps with Hidden image/Stamps with Holes/Design Perforations/Cut Outs

The US Postal Service produced some stamps with a hidden image from the years 1997 to 2004. These hidden images/messages could only be viewed through a special device called the "Stamp Decoder".

The Stamp decoder is an optical lens manufactured for reading hidden images and symbols on selected US Stamp issues. Each decoder lens comprises thousands of tiny elongated lenses called lenticules.

On most of the stamps issues, the decoder needs to be placed horizontally (with the printed wording on the decoder facing up) to view the images while other stamps may require turning the decoder to a 15 degree angle to view them.

The first US Stamp decoder was issued in 1997, reissued in 1998 in a different packing and finally in 2005 in the below packaging.

Hungary 2012 - 85th Stamp Day – Kalocsa Rose motif Embroidery stamp and Paprika scented Stamp

Issue date 6 July 2012

On 6 July 2012, Magyar Posta greeted the 85th Stamp Day – greatest festival for stamp collectors – by issuing stamps. In addition to the souvenir sheet with extra charge, a dual denomination stamp series and a special version came out. Magyar Posta devotes the surcharge sum (200 HUF per sheet) to supporting organised stamp collecting activity in Hungary. (HUF - Hungarian Forint).

The 80 HUF stamp of the series shows Kalocsa embroidery (top right stamp), while the 130 HUF stamp features a paprika string and part of the exterior of Kaposi’s Paprika Museum.

The stamps of the two denominations are arranged tete-beche, i.e. head to tail. Some unique mementos of religious art from the Kalocsa Archiepiscopal Treasury can be seen on the stamp image and the frame drawing of the numbered sheet. A special feature of the sheet is that a so-called Anti-Stokes layer supplemented the offset printing process used on it, thanks to which the stamp emits green light and sound when placed under infra-red light.

This feature has a safety function, since it can only be detected by instruments specially developed for this purpose. The special pigment layer – by the caption “Magyarorszag” in the stamp image of the sheet – emits green light under the HORUS 1019 light, while the same infra radiation is triggered in the form of a beeping sound when the stamp is inspected with the RADIR 2029 device.

The stamp sheet numbered from 1-10,000 is available in a special stamp selection titled 85th Stamp Day: Kalocsa Collection (My collection ID is 03739). In addition to the basic version of the stamp series, the series’ special version also forms part of the exclusive collection and can only be purchased as part of this selection.

A special feature of the 80 HUF denomination is that its Kalocsa rose motif is real embroidery, while the 130 HUF stamp image with a paprika motif has a layer of paprika fragrance coating which contains the special aroma of paprika sealed in microcapsules. This compilation was printed in 10,000 copies, which is equal to the number of copies made of the special version of the stamp series.

Croatia 2015 Number 112 Day with Glow in Dark Printing

Issue date 11 February 2015

The number 112 is an emergency number introduced in the European countries to provide overall help in cases of threatened health and lives of people as well as material goods and environment.

The 112 System was operationally introduced in the Republic of Croatia on 11 February 2005 and to commemorate 10 years of operations, Croatian Post has issued a stamp depicting the number 112 overlapping the SOS (synonym for Save Our Souls)  which internationally means Call for Help. The number 112 on the stamp is printed with Phosphorescent ink which glows in the dark when the light is switched off.

The system is similar to the 911 numbers operational in the US and Canada regions.

11 February (hence number 112) was established as the European 112 Day by the European Parliament in 2009.

Spain 2015 Stamp Mosaic with a Guinness Record

Issue date 25 May 2015

Spanish Post has been given a Guinness World Record Certificate for creating the "World's largest stamp mosaic" featuring a letter Ñ which is symbol of the Spanish Post Brand

The stamp has been issued along with a vignette with no postal value showing the winning mosaic from another perspective.

A total of 3,100 participants, including 1,900 pupils from 10 primary schools and 1,200 other individuals, assembled the largest stamp mosaic ever created. The event took place on 6 and 7 November 2014 at the José María Martín Carpena Sport Complex in Málaga.

The mosaic contains 230,000 stamps provided by Correos and covers 220 square metres of a paper canvas on which a 17.5 x 12.5 metre panel was constructed. It took students, stamp buffs, sporting associations, Correos employees and the general public 22 hours over the course of two days to affix all the stamps.

Prior to the Spanish post office winning the Guinness world record, it had been held by South Africa's postal service and Hatfield Tuition Collage since 2010 for having recreated the Johannesburg skyline. Their composition used 201,000 stamps, covered an area of 162 square metres and took one month to complete.

The stamps also features a perforation with the symbol Ã‘
