French Polynesia 2016 Sandalwood Scented Stamps

The Sandalwood trees of French Polynesia (Santalum insulare) is presently found in the archipelagoes of the Marquesas Islands (Nuku Hiva, Ua Pou, Hiva Oa, Tahuata and Fatu Hiva), Tahiti, Moorea and Raiatea and Southern parts of Raivavae and Rapa Islands.

Sandalwood is a tree particularly known and appreciated for the characteristic smell of its only wood. In French Polynesia, this wood is used in traditional medicine, in the small business sector (handicrafts) or the cosmetic industry as a perfume.
