Sierra Leone 1964 NY World Fair 64 - Land on Iron and Diamonds Odd shaped Stamps

Issue date 10 February 1964

Sierra Leone issued 7 stamps from the "Land of Iron and Diamonds." before the start of the New York World Fair in 1964. These die cut stamps were in the shape of the Geographical Map of the country. They are the Sierra Leone's First Self Adhesive Stamps,

The regular mail issues have green backing paper. The symbol at the center of the stamp is a Griffin.

At the same time as the regular Sierra Leone stamps were released, seven airmail versions of the New York World's Fair stamps were issued. These self-adhesive airmail stamps have yellow backing paper and with the image of the Unisphere replacing the Griffin at the center of the stamp.
