Gibraltar 2021CryptoCurrency Stamp
Issue date 17 May 2021
Gibraltar Post has issued a crypto related stamp which has QR code and a unique serial number which when scanned takes you to an associate crypto currency website asking you to create a WAXP digital wallet.
It is personally to me a disappointing issue and gives me the reason to stop collecting crypto stamps henceforth. I have realised that it’s just a stamp with QR code and no additional security features on the stamp depending on the crypto currency associate to provide the security. Have already ordered the Austria 3.0 crypto stamp which promises NFC as an additional security feature so the NFT associated with the stamp becomes irrelevant (so the Austria crypto may actually be my last of the crypto stamp unless other unusual printing is done on the stamp - earlier ones had scratch off .. current one with NFC .. but the current Gibraltar issue has just the printed QR code.. that’s what I would categorise it under in future with no other unusual features about it)
My opinion (others may disagree - to each to their own) - the current Gibraltar issue only reserves 2 NFT for which you need to buy using WAXP crypto currency through an exchange valid for your country. You need to buy a minimum Waxp Crypto currency from the associated exchange (one exchange said minimum 50USD worth and another 30 USD plus a fee charged by the exchange. There is also fee applicable from your bank for the currency conversion to USD if USA is not your country of origin)
You need to store this WAXP crypto currency in your created WAXP wallet. Be ready to give your credit /debit card details to the exchange you are buying from .. so now be ready to give your identity documents like passport/drivers license/ permanent resident cards to proof your purchase (personally was worried in giving my identity documents to an unknown exchange - though they say that these crypto exchanges are fail safe .. really don’t have the inclination or time to prove otherwise) So I declined the further process.
So now you have the WAXP currency in your Waxp wallet (presuming that you are confident of the exchange security). So the Gibraltar stamps provides you the reservations of the 2 NFTs ( there are in the form of pictures of paintings in various level of “Rareness”) and you need to send the registration form available on the WAXP platform to inform them of your purchase with the unique QR code. Note here I don’t know further to this (Just speculation on my part) You are assigned 2 NFTs randomly at a later date (not sure how that is decided- unlike current ones tells you exactly what you got red/blue/black/yellow/gold, a plane/train/carriage/ship or a whale) and you need to purchase these using the WAXP currency at a later date.. (me thinking so no free NFTs with the stamp.. you got to buy them and no transparency on the NFT)
So my opinion is the Gibraltar Crypto Stamp issue is just a stamp with QR code and you need to buy the assigned NFT with crypto currency ( why not buy with just regular currency directly) I guess it needs to use crypto currency to call it a crypto stamp. I am not buying.. good luck and best wishes for those buying.
The Gibraltar Post has just issued these stamps with QR code.. any information you need regarding the crypto currency or the NFTs issue please contact the agency which has created this issue. Thanks for going through my gibberish.
