Bhutan 2009 – Multimedia CD Rom Stamps

On 21st February 2009 coinciding with the 29th Birthday of His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the 5th Druk Gyalpo of the Kingdom of Bhutan, Bhutan Post issued its second issue in a series of world's first CD-ROM postage stamps. These stamps are mini-CDs that fit into exquisitely decorated, self-adhesive envelopes. When affixed to a larger envelope, the CD-ROM stamp can be used as postage. When inserted into a computer, the CD-ROM plays an 8-minute video about Bhutan.

"Bhutan: Voting for Happiness" illustrates the country's peaceful transition from heredity monarchy to constitutional democracy. "Bhutan: Coronation 2008" documents the coronation of Bhutan's new king, His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck.

Bhutan 2008 – Multimedia CD Rom stamps

There are two CD-ROMs in the series. The first is titled "Bhutan: 100 Years of Monarchy" and celebrates the history of the nation and its rulers. The second CD-ROM is called "Bhutan: In Harmony with Nature" and highlights their environmental efforts. Issued on 21 February 2008 by Bhutan Post.

The first CD-ROM stamp issued to commemorate 100 years of monarchy. Monarchy has been established in 1907 in Bhutan with Ugyen Wangchuck (1861-1926) the First King. Four kings have followed: Jigme Wangchuck (1902-1952), Jigme Dorji Wangchuck (1929-1972), Jigme Singye Wangchuck (1955-) and finally Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck (1980), officially crowned on 6 November 2008. The CD-ROM pictures a portrait of each king with his name and the dates of his reign. The CD-ROM contains a video that tells the story of monarchy in Bhutan

The second CD-ROM stamp that commemorates the engagement of Bhutan in the fight for Nature preservation.

The CD-ROM stamps come in a protective envelope that can be affixed to the letter being mailed, so that the CD-ROM can be safely delivered to the recipient.
