Finland 2006 Snow Art Stamps with thermochromic ink printing

Finland Post has issued a special booklet of 4 self adhesive stamps depicting Ice and Snow Art. The first stamp depicts an ice horse sculpture, sculpted by a team comprised of Steve Brice, Charles Dash, Carl Eady and Michael Gresham for the Blue Ice Art event in Pello in 1999.  The second stamp shows the high wall of Kemi Snow Castle. The Third Stamp shows an ice wall built by Kimmo Frosti, the bricks of which are made of ice from Lake Saimaa. The fourth stamp shows a snow lantern made of snowballs.

The blue ink of the face values turns white when touched. The heat-sensitive ink on the stamps will keep for roughly 1.5 years, after which the face values will stay white.

The face value 1 is blue generally 

The face value 1 changes to white when heat applied

Finland 2018 Climate change

Finland Post has issued 3 domestic Stamps on a miniature sheet with special printing using heat-pressed ink that will change color when touched with a finger. By touching the stamp with your finger, you can see what we can expect in Finland if the constant warming of the climate is not brought under control.

 The particular focus of the stamps is the effect of climate change on Finnish weather conditions, nature and society.

Finland Post Posti has issued  a special stamp featuring printing of the Country Name and Mailing amount of 10 Euro on the mini sheet with golden foil and there is embossing of the Finland Coat of arms on the stamp (embossing visible on the back of the sheet). In UV light, the map of Finland and a graph depicting the genetic background of Finns appear on the miniature sheet and the stamp.

Finland 1998 Valentine Day ‘With Friendship’ miniature sheet featuring Stamps with Scratch off coatings

On the occasion of Valentine's Day, Finland Post has issued a miniature sheet featuring the greetings and gifts given during valentine's day with a scratch-off heart. When the heart is scratched off, one of six different images appears. Each stamp has a heart-shaped scraping surface hiding a lovely picture of friendship

The images hidden by the overlaid heart are musical notes with two dogs, an elephant with a mouse and flowers, a puppy with a sealed envelope, kittens hugging, a dog with flowers and rodents with flowers.

The stamp's animal motifs - cats, dogs, mice and elephants -
are depicted on the margins of the miniature sheet as well. The
margins also provide friendship greetings in Finnish and Swedish.

Finland 2011 Struve Geodetic Arc Miniature Sheet Round shaped stamp with Map cutout

In the beginning of the 19th century Struve Geodetic Arc was a tour de force of astronomy and triangulation. The series of measurements carried out to determine the shape and size of the Earth was a huge achievement at the time before satellite positioning. 

The Struve Geodetic Arc was used for determining the size and shape of the globe. The arc, which is approximately 2,820 kilometers long, extends from the Black Sea in Ukraine all the way to the Arctic Ocean in Norway. The arc was named after F.G.W. Struve who managed the measurement in 1816-1855.

The arc measurement stations are located in ten countries: Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Russia, Finland, Sweden and Norway. The 34 most representative measurement points of the Struve Arc were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as a joint site of ten countries in 2005.


The miniature sheet designed by Susanna Rumpu and Ari Lakaniemi indicates the six points located in Finland. The two stamps in the release are within each other in the miniature sheet. The outer stamp is round, and the inner has the shape of the map of Finland. The stamp depicts the station points in Finland in a landscape filled with lakes and forests.


Struve Geodetic Arc stretches from the Black Sea to the Arctic Ocean and was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2005 as a joint World Heritage of the ten countries involved. Six station points located in Finland are included in the World Heritage List. The other countries concerned are Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine.

Finland 2010 Heureka Science Center MS with Tangram Design

DNA research and digital communication are the subjects of the new Science miniature sheet issued on 30 May 2010 by the . The sheet is also a tribute to the Heureka Science Center  dedicated to introducing different disciplines and the new technology to the general public and to young people in particular. The hologram sheet contains three FIM 3.50 stamps and is priced at FIM 10.50.

As a specialty feature, the sheet is in the form of an ancient Chinese puzzle, the tangram. By reorganizing the pieces of the puzzle, you will be able to form two identical smaller squares. The stamps - a triangle, a parallelogram and a square - are also pieces of the puzzle. The solution is printed on the back of the sheet. A "tangram" is a game with 7 geometric shapes, put together as a square. Each of the single shapes can be formed by putting the other shapes in a certain order. Also other forms can be made by putting each piece in another place. A nice game and major brain-breaker.

The miniature sheet contains two seals, one featuring the Sierpinski Triangle as a hologram, the other the emblem of the Science Center Heureka. The center with its cinema Verne also appears on

the miniature sheet. The sheet has 3 stamps and a hologram.

Thermographic Printing is a specialist process which creates an enamel-like ‘relief’ effect on the stamp. Special heat reactive, or thermographic, powders is applied to wet printing ink creating a distinctive raised effect on the finished stamp.  

Finland 2007 Easter Rabbit Ceramic Like Stamp

Thermography was used in Finland for the first time when the Easter stamp for 2007 was printed. This technique gives the stamp a ceramic-like roughness. Stamp has been printed by Cartor Company.

Finland 2003 Lighthouses of the Gulf of Finland with glow in the dark under UV printing

The Finland Post has issued 5 1st Class stamps named "Lighthouses of the Gulf of Finland" on a miniature sheet. 

This is a special stamp issue with the world's first glow in the dark lighthouse stamps.

Each of the lighthouses is position on the sheet in geographical order from west to east. The following list has the year in which the lighthouses were built, their precise location, and height above ground level. This information can also be seen on the upper edge of the lighthouses sheet.

Lighthouse of Bengtskar - built in 1906 at 59 degrees 43,4'N 22 degrees 31,1'E and stands 43.8 meters high.
Lighthouse of Russaro - built in 1863 at 50 degrees 46,0'N 22 degrees 57,1'E and stands 21.4 meters high.
Lighthouse of Ronnskar - built in 1800 at 59 degrees 56,1'N 24 degrees 23,7'E and stands 30.0 meters high.
Lighthouse of Harmaja - built in 1883 at 60 degrees 06,3'N 24 degrees 58,7'E and stands 14 meters high.
Lighthouse of Soderskar - built in 1862 at 60 degrees 06,5'N 25 degrees 24,8'E and stands 32.5 meters high.

Finland 2008 Frosty Night Transparent stamp

The Frosty Night stamp will be the world’s first transparent stamp. Printed on a special film, the €0.80 stamp was designed by Nina Rintala.

The designer has created the mystical atmosphere of a winter’s night on the stamp using a large snowflake, twinkling stars in the distance, and a flickering aurora borealis. The card or envelope the stamp is affixed to will tint the result with its own colours.
