Austria 2024 200 Years Piatnik - Herz Card Stamps

Austria Post to commemorate 200 years of Piatnik - Herz, a Viennese company that produces and sells games, playing cards and puzzles since 1824, has issued a set of 4 miniature sheet printed on a playing card design with "Ace" stamp in 4 different types of playing card. The cards are sold as a pack of 5 playing cards of one color design with one stamp (Ace) and remaining 4 cards with Cinderella stamps of the same color design (King, Queen, Jack, 10).

Philippine 2024 125th Anniversary of the first Philippine Republic

Philippine Postal Corp. (PHLPost) to commemorate the 125th Anniversary of the first Philippine Republic, has launched a postage stamp to commemorate important historical events that marked the start of the journey towards Philippines Independence Day and Nationhood. 

The sheetlet strip of three (3) measures 200mm x 35mm, setting the world record for being the World's Longest Postage Stamp. It beats the previous widest stamp by Kyrgyzstan Post in 2023 featuring Kyrgyzstan’s Chaar-Tash mountain range commemorating the International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development. The stamp is 184 millimeters (7.2 inches) long and the second longest stamp 170mm-long (6.7 inches) issued by Thailand Post in 2017 commemorating the 70th anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s accession to the throne.

According to PHLPost, the stamp illustrates the Philippines’ journey to nationhood from the historic proclamation of independence on June 12, 1898 to the declaration of the first Philippine Republic in 1899. The stamp commemorates the following events in Philippine history:

Declaration of Philippine Independence in 1898

Arrival of President Emilio Aguinaldo in Malolos, Bulacan

Inauguration of the first Philippine Republic at the Barasoain Church in 1899

Philippine-American War

Aguinaldo’s odyssey in northern Luzon

France 2010 Football stamp with Double back printing

Phila Poste France has issued a special stamp with back to back printing with stamps on both sides (On the front: "tu y crois" and on the back: "à fond") with either side to be used at a time.

The stamps were issued to commemorate the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa.

Other countries has also issued back to back printing of stamps but the stamps printed were self adhesive which means 2 stamps even though printed back to back could be still used as 2 separate stamps unlike the one issued by France in this issued which allowed it to be used only once unless one removed the stamp from the envelope and stuck it reversed on another envelope which is usually a remote possibility one it is used.

Finland 2006 Snow Art Stamps with thermochromic ink printing

Finland Post has issued a special booklet of 4 self adhesive stamps depicting Ice and Snow Art. The first stamp depicts an ice horse sculpture, sculpted by a team comprised of Steve Brice, Charles Dash, Carl Eady and Michael Gresham for the Blue Ice Art event in Pello in 1999.  The second stamp shows the high wall of Kemi Snow Castle. The Third Stamp shows an ice wall built by Kimmo Frosti, the bricks of which are made of ice from Lake Saimaa. The fourth stamp shows a snow lantern made of snowballs.

The blue ink of the face values turns white when touched. The heat-sensitive ink on the stamps will keep for roughly 1.5 years, after which the face values will stay white.

The face value 1 is blue generally 

The face value 1 changes to white when heat applied

Liechtenstein 2022 Equality Stamp with Braille embossing and holes

Liechtenstein Post to promote the concept of Equality has issued a special stamp printed with the Equal Sign in Braille. The equals sign (=) is graphically depicted once in Braille and once in black print. The neon yellow background draws the viewer’s attention to the sign.

For correct legibility of the character on the special stamp, the upper two dots were punched and the lower four dots were raised.

Switzerland 2024 Pro Patria - The Fifth Switzerland Stamps printed with thermochromic ink

Swiss Post dedicated 2 special stamps printed with Thermal ink to Pro Patria - The Fifth Switzerland represented by Swiss Nationals living outside of Switzerland. Since 1916, the Organisation of the Swiss Abroad (OSA), a local community group, has been organizing holiday camps in Switzerland for young Swiss citizens between the ages of 15 and 18 who are resident abroad. Among the items on last summer’s agenda was the creation of the new Pro Patria stamps with the goal of producing two stamps representing the fifth Switzerland.

The first stamp depicts a cheese fondue with the black pan printed with thermochromic ink which when heat applied shows the Swiss Cross. The second stamp shows a woman with a black heart which when heated warms out to the Swiss Cross again.

La Poste France to commemorate the Aubusson Tapestry making which is listed on the UNESCO's Representative list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. The International Centre of Aubusson Tapestry displays examples of tapestries since the 15th Century as well preserves the know how of tapestry making for future generations.

The first stamp feature the Tapestry of the Unicorn Hide and the second stamp features The Sacrifice of Abraham Tapestry.

Liechtenstein Post to highlight the benefits of Lifelong Learning has issued a set of 2 Special Holographic Foil Stamps called "MRI 1" and "MRI 2" which shows abstract images of brain scanned using magnetic resonance imaging. The shimmering hologram foil symbolises changes in brain activity. 

Lifelong learning and dealing with complex and demanding contents serve to train brain activity and mental abilities and contribute to well-being in old age unlike the prevalent belief that the ability to concentrate and the capacity to remember declines with age.

Liechtenstein 2024 40 Years of Women's Suffrage in Liechtenstein Embroidered Stamp

Liechtenstein Post to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Women’s suffrage in the Principality of Liechtenstein has issued a special embroidered Stamp “The Cross - a Powerful Symbol” (face value: CHF 9.50)  a politically significant event which allowed the Women of Liechtenstein to put the Cross on the Election Ballot allowing them to Vote and also stand for election themselves. 

The embroidered stamp was made by Hämmerle & Vogel GmbH & Co KG, Lustenau.

United Kingdom 2008 Uinversal Mail UK - Stone Henge Personalised Stamp for Postcards

Universal Mail UK Ltd a private enterprise (formed in 2001) has an access agreement with Royal Mail to send postcards to any destination outside of the UK using Royal Mail’s extensive network of red post boxes and Post offices located throughout England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland since 2006.

Universal Mail UK Ltd is the premier producer of tourism related and bespoke stamps in the UK. 

Each stamp comprises two parts - the "stamp" design is a partial Union Flag to the right side of the stamp with the inscription "International Postcard" or "International Letter" and the license code identifier for UniversalMail "XT 500". The left-hand part of the stamp features the generic (or personalised) image plus the inscription UniversalMail United Kingdom. 

Each self-adhesive strip features five international postcard rate (10g) stamps which may be used as pre-paid postage for postcards posted to worldwide destinations.  In the bottom right-hand corner is printed a code comprising a serial number (UK0001) and date code (10/08). The reverse of the strip is printed in white on a black-green background and provides additional details of package weights and retail bar-codes etc,

India 2024 Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Temple Miniature sheet with Sandalwood Scent

India Post has issued a special odd shaped Miniature sheet to commemorate the inauguration of the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Temple in Ayodhya. The sheet has been printed with sandalwood scent and the printing ink has used water from the holy river Saryu and soil from the holy city of Ayodhya, Gold foiling has been done in certain sections.

Indonesia 2012 – World Stamp Championship Jakarta – Stamp with Batik Cloth

Indonesia Post issued a special Souvenir sheet on 18 June 2012 during the World Stamp Championship held at Jakarta from 18-24 June 2012 which features batik cloth prints on the stamps while the bigger stamp features a piece of the Batik Cloth.

The form of batik motifs is a reflection of social culture, philosophy of life, customs of people of Sunda, an ethnic group of West Java people. 

A limited edition of overprint was issued for the 2022 Indonesia World Stamp Championship with a limited run of 1000 pieces, My sheet number is 0756 / 1000

Canada 2012 100 years of the Calgary Stampede Augment Reality Stamps

Canada Post to commemorate the centennial of the Calgary Stampede, has issued two commemorative stamps featuring a rodeo horse and a silver and gold belt buckle designed by designer Xerxes Irani.

The silver-and-gold anniversary belt-buckle featured on the U.S.-rate stamp which are being produced as much-prized event trophies this year. There will be limited to 100 pieces and will serve as trophies for the Centennial celebration of the Calgary Stampede.

The Stamps features Augment Reality built onto the stamp and when scanned with the Stamps Alive App (No longer available for Download) allows one to see a barrel race and interactive experience with a horse.

Magyar Posta has issued a special set of stamps to commemorate the selection of Lavender as the Medicinal Plant of the Year by the Medicinal Plant Section of the Hungarian Society for Pharmaceutical Sciences. 

A limited edition of a folder containing 5 miniature sheets was also issued which had - 2 lavender scented perforated and imperforated souvenir sheet with a lavender colored serial numbers, a standard edition souvenir sheet with serial numbers in black, an imperforated souvenir sheet numbered in red and a specially perforated edition numbered in green.

Only 1000 of these folders were issued and the serial numbers on souvenirs sheets on my folder is 783

Surprised that I had not updated my blog on this sheet considering its one of the most sought unusual item among the Unusual Stamp collector's list. Rumored that it was sold at a Chinese Embassy to collectors to fund Morocco Development Fund (not substantiated with facts - no official statement on its release though mentioned on Morocco Post presentation on the innovations of Morocco Post in its stamp issues). Also rumored that a limited number was produced and distributed as gifts among the Moroccan and Chinese Officials attending the launch of the stamps in Morocco. No comments from my end but you just got to admire the beauty of the stamp presented on Silk and affixed with a porcelain jar.

There were 3 varieties of miniature sheet printed - Miniature sheet printed with normal paper, limited number of Miniature sheet printed on Silk and limited number of Miniature sheet printed on Silk with a Porcelain Jar affixed.
