The souvenir sheet is shaped like a wave, exuding a tea fragrance on its selvage area of the souvenir sheet. Chunghwa Post has issued this souvenir sheet at the TAIPEI 2023 – 39th Asian International Stamp Exhibition is held on August 11-15, 2023, at Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition Hall 1.

Taiwan 2013 Qing Dynasty Embroidery Stamps

To commemorate the Qing Dynasty-era embroidery, Chungwa Post (Taiwan Post) has issued a special sheet 70 cm (over 2 feet) in length that shows the entire Qing Dynasty embroidery.

The original embroidery, a 5m wide curtain used for ceremonial purposes, includes rich colors. Highlighted by a plush red, it depicts birds, flowers, and trees celebrating a spring-like flowering and abundance. It was in fact in connection with these special stamp sets that the National Museum put the original embroidery on display.

Chunghwa Post (Taiwan Post) has issued a special souvenir sheet on special silk paper featuring Golden Pheasant in Spring from the Giuseppe Castiglione - Qing Dynasty Exhibition at the National Palace Museum. The painting depicts 2 pheasants perched on a garden rock beside a mountain stream. Surrounding the rock are flowers, bamboo and spirit fungi which brings to the mind of the Chinese Expression "a brocade of spring radiance".

Taiwan 2016 Painting Calligraphy on Fan shaped with Bamboo wood affixed

Chunghwa Post Co. Ltd. (Taiwan Postal Authority) has issued a fan-shaped stamp with affixed bamboo chips featuring a seven-character, eight-line poem in semicursive script by Ming dynasty (1368-1644) painter Wen Zengming. The fan is a prized exhibit of the National Museum of History.

Wen was a prominent painter and calligrapher, and lauded as one of the Four Great Masters of the Ming dynasty with Shen Zhou, Tang Yin, and Qiu Ying. His signature penmanship includes the small regular script and running script. This particular piece is a seven-character regulated verse ("qilü").

The NT$80 sheet has a fan shaped stamp with bamboo chips affixed.

Taiwan 2015 Jellyfish Stamps with Glow in Dark under UV

Jellyfish are cnidarians, a group of gelatinous invertebrates and have neither hearts nor skeletons. They are transparent and contain 95% water. To the lovers who are fond of marine life, the lightsome jellyfish are undoubtedly one of the most beautiful creatures in the water. With their umbrellalike shapes, transparent body colors and elegant tentacles, jellyfish slowly move in the sea through their bells expanding and contracting. By rhythmic movements, jellyfish sway like beautiful dancers. While emitting bioluminescent light, they are even more graceful and much more eye-catching comparing with other marine life. To show the beauty of marine life, Chunghwa Post has specially planned a set of four stamps featuring jellyfish. 

The designs follow : 

1. Pelagia noctiluca (NT$5): With bell diameter up to 10 cm, it feeds primarily on zooplankton and larval fish. Its reproductive gland contain bioluminescent enzyme that can produce beautiful glow. This jellyfish is widely distributed in warm temperate surface waters, and occurs in the waters off northern Taiwan, including Jinshan, Yeliu and Keelung Harbor.  

2. Physophora hydrostatica (NT$7): It can grow up to 8-12 cm in length and feeds on zooplankton. A colony contains a number of specialized individuals with different functions. It behaves and moves like a single organism. They are widely found in temperate and tropical surface waters of the world ocean. They often occur in spring and summer, and are common in the Taiwan Strait and in the waters south and east to Taiwan. 

3. Mastigias papua (NT$10): It is about 10 cm in diameter of the bell and feeds on zooplankton. Its umbrella has numerous white spots and can vary in color depending on the environmental conditions and the types of symbiotic algae. It is mainly distributed in tropical and subtropical coastal waters, as well as bays and lagoons. It can be found in the coastal waters of southern and northern Taiwan, including Yeliu. 

4. Cyanea capillata (NT$12): This is a large jellyfish with a bell that can reach up to 2 meters in diameter. It feeds on zooplankton, small fish and other jellyfishes. From its bell dangle as many as 150 tentacles, which may attain a length of 35 meters when fully stretched. It is mainly distributed in temperate and polar surface waters, but occasionally found in tropical waters with a smaller size. It can be seen in the northern and central Taiwan Strait and in the waters off northern Taiwan. 

In order to increase collecting interest and highlight jellyfish’s bioluminescence, the jellyfish illustrations of these stamps are printed with fluorescent inks, which will glow with beautiful colors when viewed under purple light making it more lifelike. The stamps are printed in four colors with three-color fluorescent inks, accumulated to seven colors in total.

Taiwan 2013 Deep Sea Creatures MS with Glow in the Dark under UV and 3D Hologram Stamp

To increase understanding about deep sea creatures, Chunghwa Post issued two souvenir sheets featuring animals that live in the mesopelagic zone of waters near Taiwan. Their designs follow:

Souvenir Sheet A: includes four stamps

1. Eurypharynx pelecanoides (NT$10): This mesopelagic and bathyalpelagic fish lives at depths of 500-3,000 meters. Despite its huge mouth, the fish mostly preys on small crustaceans due to its tiny teeth and stomach that can’t be over-stretched.

2. Argyropelecus aculeatus (NT$12): Commonly known as the Atlantic silver hatchetfish, it lives at depths of 200-1,000 meters. Its flat silver body resembles a mirror, reflecting the colors of its surroundings to camouflage itself. The light organs along its belly also help it conceal itself by producing light that hides its own shadow.

3. Bufoceratias shaoi (NT$10): This species lives at depths of 500-1,200 meters. Its body is globular in shape but slightly flatter on the sides. The tip of its first dorsal fin has evolved to become a light organ called the illicium or esca, which contains many symbiotic bioluminescent bacteria. The esca can emit light to lure curious prey—hence its Chinese nickname: “lantern fish.”

4. Regalecus glesne (NT$12): This mesopelagic fish is found at depths ranging from the surface to 1,000 meters. There have been occasional sightings of it in waters off the coast of Taiwan. The world’s longest bony fish, it can grow up to 11 meters. It is nicknamed the “earthquake fish” in Taiwan because it is often spotted by fishermen after earthquakes.

The marginal inscription features Leptocephalus (upper left corner), Ctenophora (lower right corner) and Bobtail squid (lower left corner).

Souvenir Sheet B: includes one stamp

Histioteuthis celetaria pacifica (NT$25): This species lives at depths of 300-500 meters. Densely covered with light organs, its body can emit just the right amount of light to camouflage itself. One of its eyes has evolved to be larger than the other so as to help it search for prey.

The marginal inscription features Pyrosoma sp. (upper left corner), Tomopteris sp. (right), Malacosteus niger (bottom) and Gnathophausia sp. (bottom left). 


To highlight the bioluminescent characteristics of these deep sea creatures, the luminescent parts of these animals are printed in luminous ink, giving the stamps a charming effect under darkness. Furthermore, in order to illustrate the color of the silver hatchetfish, it is hot stamped with holographic foil

Taiwan 2012 Teas of Taiwan – Stamp with hole in form of teacup

Teas produced in Taiwan are celebrated around the world for their quality. Based on the degree of fermentation, teas are categorized into several kinds: non-fermented tea (green tea), fully-fermented tea (black tea) and partially fermented varieties. The last is widely known as “Baozhong tea” in Taiwan’s academic circle; it is further categorized by the differences of shape: “strip,” “semi-ball type” and “ball type.” The latter two are commonly known as Oolong tea and Tieguanyin tea.

To encourage better understanding in teas, Chunghwa Post features Baozhong, Tieguanyin, Black tea, Oolong and Oriental Beauty teas as theme for “Teas of Taiwan Souvenir Sheet” with five stamps. The bottom of every stamp is accentuated with the featured tea variety and a cup of tea, and each stamp is set against the tourist attraction of the tea region in single color, complemented by a miniature teapot cutout on the upper right corner. Marginal inscription of the souvenir sheet is inspired by a tea-drinking scenario that manifests the timelessness of Taiwan’s tea culture. The designs follow:

1. Baozhong tea (NT$10): A lightly fermented tea, the liquid is honey-gold in color with a pleasant aroma, and a smooth, refreshing taste. It is grown primarily in Pinglin, Shiding in New Taipei City and Wenshan, Nangang in Taipei City. The backdrop of the stamp is set against the Pinglin Tea Museum. 

2. Tieguanyin tea (NT$10): A partially fermented tea, Tieguanyin is more oxidized than Oolongs. The liquid is amber in color, with a slightly acidic and fruity zest; it is mellow, sweet and smooth to the taste. Tieguanyin is produced primarily in Muzha in Taipei City. The Maokong Gondola is the backdrop of the design. 

3. Black tea (NT$10): A fully fermented variety, the liquid is a beautiful reddish brown with a light caramel aroma and rich flavor. Black teas are grown mostly in Yuchi in Nantou County and Ruisui in Hualian. The stamp is set against the Sun Moon Lake wharf. 

4. Oolong tea (NT$10): A partially fermented tea, the liquid is bright golden-yellow with strong fragrance. Nantou and Jiayi Counties are the primary Oolong-growing regions. The famed Alishan Forest Train is the backdrop of this stamp. 

5. Oriental Beauty tea (NT$10): Synonymous with White Tip Oolong, this variety is heavily fermented. The liquid is reddish orange that smacks of nectar or ripe fruit, with a rich and smooth aroma. The tea is grown in Emei, Beipu in Xinzhu County, Toufen in Miali County, Pinglin and Shiding in New Taipei City. The stamp features the suspension bridge astride Emei Lake in the backdrop.
