Japan 2017 World of Japanese traditional culture - Kimono odd shaped stamps



Issue date 4 August 2017

Japan Post has issued a special "The World of Japanese Traditional Culture : Kimono" stamp sheet featuring images of Kimono from Heian period to the present.

The kimono featured are (right side top to bottom) - Heian period, Muromachi period, Azuchi-momoyama period, Edo period and the present period.

The stamps on the left side top to bottom are odd shaped self adhesive stamps.

Hongkong 2017 - Children Stamps - Five Senses




Issue date 18 July 2017 

Hong Kong Post has issued a set of special stamps, entitled “Children Stamps – The Five Senses” with different printing effects to depict the five senses of hearing, sight, smell, taste and touch. 

HK$1.70 – The stamp for “Hearing” has sand powder applied to its surface by thermography. Rubbing the surface will make a sound.




HK$2.20 – The stamp for "Sight" has the round lens of the camera removed by die-cutting so you can peep in the hole and see the world through the lens of the camera.




HK$2.90 – The stamp for “Smell” is peach-scented.

HK$3.70 – The gum on the back of the stamp for “Taste” is vanilla-flavoured.

HK$5 – The basketball on the stamp for “Touch” is augmented by applying heat inflating ink (Thermography) to simulate the feel of a real basketball.

Jersey 2017 Durrell and Darwin Wood stamp miniature sheet

Jersey Post to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust with support from the Darwin Initiative, has issued a special miniature sheet.

The Miniature Sheet, which has been printed on FSC certified sycamore, features a portrait of Charles Darwin and is the first Jersey stamp to be printed on wood.

The Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust was established as an international charity by naturalist and author, Gerald Durrell OBE in 1959. It has partnered with the Darwin Initiative on many occasions during the course of its conservation programme.

Alderney 2017 Coastal Eclipses

To commemorate the Eclipse occurring on 21 August 2017, Alderney Post has issued 6 stamps featuring 6 coastal locations which will be treated with a partial eclipse.

The stamps feature heat sensitive ink which reveal full eclipses when warmed with the finger tips revealing the altitude and direction of the eclipse for each coastal location - 

44-penny stamp - Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada  (altitude is 38.76 degrees, and that the direction is 120.64 degrees, east-southeast 21 August 2017 time 10:21 )

59-penny stamp - Miami, Florida USA (altitude is 64.29 degrees, and that the direction is 242.44 degrees, west-southwest 21 August 2017 time 14:58 )

60-penny stamp - Hamilton, Bermuda (altitude is 46.49 degrees, and that the direction is 252.34 degrees, west-southwest 21 August 2017 time 16:12 ),

73-penny stamp - Dakar, Senegal (altitude is 1.19 degrees, and that the direction is 282.09 degrees, west-northwest 21 August 2017 time 19:22 ), 

80-penny stamp - Saint Anne, Alderney (altitude is 0.77 degrees, and that the direction is 288.27 degrees, west-northwest with time 21 August 2017 time 20:07 ),

90-penny stamp - Anadyr, Russia (altitude is 5.70 degrees, and that the direction is 72.92 degrees, east-northeast with time 22 August 2017 time 05:19 )

New Caledonia 2017 New Born - Its a Boy/Girl Stamps with Scratch off coatings

To celebrate the New Born Baby, New Caledonia Post has issued a special set of scratch-off  stamps showing a Stork carrying a newborn baby wrapped in a bundle in its beak, with a scratch off opaque area with a question mark covering the bundle, to reveal the baby’s gender ( whether it’s a girl or a boy) to the recipient of the letter. 

Spoiler Alert - A good guess looking at the difference in the 2 stamps is the the HEART on the top right hand corner and the STAR on the top right hand corner of the stamp - heart (girl) Star (Boy).
