Hong Kong 2014 Gold and Silver Stamp Sheetlet on Lunar New Year Animals – Snake/Horse

Hongkong Post has issued a stamp sheetlet consisting of two stamps, one featuring the Snake and the other the Horse, both in a denomination of $50 to celebrates the Chinese Lunar New Year of 2014. The Snake stamp is hot-foiled with silver, while the Horse stamp is affixed with 22K gold-plated lace metal.

The snake is a symbol of luck, longevity and wealth and the silver signifies nobility while the horse is a symbol of wisdom, determination and talent with the gold signifying nobility.

Hong Kong 2014 Year of the Horse Silk Stamp Sheetlet

For the special occasion of the Chinese Lunar New Year 2014 (30 Jan 2014), Hongkong Post has also released a silk stamp sheetlet showcasing a horse puppet used in traditional Chinese shadow puppetry to represent Year of the Horse celebration


A symbol of nobility and elegance, silk adds grandeur to the majestic creature, heralding a blissful Year of the Horse.

The HKD 50 Silk Stamp Sheetlet is printed on Silk paper with security fibers using the Lithography printing method.

Malaysia 2013 Nyonya Kebaya Traditional Wedding attire Miniature Sheet featuring Stamps with holes.

The Nyonya Kebaya (traditional blouse dress worn by women) first appeared only in the early 20th century. The early versions features rather simple embroidery work, but later, especially from the 1960s onwards, a more exquisite and intricate embroidery began to emerge.  While the early kebayas are hand sewn, the Nyonya kebaya today is embroidered using the sewing machine with flower motives being the favourite theme. 

The miniature sheet feature a Nyonya Kebaya, which won the UNESCO Award of Excellence for Handicraft 2012.  The stamp within the miniature sheet feature a composition of Malaysian fruit, with holes cut on the paper resembling the embroidery.

Qu'aiti State in the Hadhramaut, South Arabia (now a part of Republic of Yemen) 1967 AMPHILEX - Amsterdam, Netherlands Philatelic Exhibition 



Issue date 11 May 1967

The 1967 Amphilex - Netherlands Philatelic Exhibition was held at the R.A.I building in Amsterdam from 11 May to 21 May 1967. To commemorate the Amphilex exhibition, the 75fils stamp issued by the Qu'aiti State in the Hadhramaut, South Arabia (now a part of Republic of Yemen) featured the a Dutch scenery famous for Tulips and Windmills and a Stamp on stamp featuring the famous 1918 US error stamp 'The Inverted Jenny' (details of the stamp can be found in an earlier posting).

A miniature sheet featuring the above stamp was also released during the occasion.

Canada 2014 Chinese Zodiac Year of the Horse 2014 transitional Sheet from Year of the Snake Souvenir Sheet

The transitional souvenir Sheet issued by Canada Post to celebrate the end of the Year of the Snake and the start of the Year of the Horse on January 31, 2014  and features 2 international stamps : the 2013 Year of the Snake stamp and the 2014 Year of the Horse stamp. 

The two stamps depicts a golden horse, rearing up on its hind legs, (current 2014 stamp issue) and a brilliant gold & jade snake (previous 2013 stamp issue) with 3D embossing effect.

The souvenir sheet is designed with 2 prominent colors - Red, the dominant color on the background sheet, symbolizes good fortune and joy. Gold, the main color on both of the stamps, symbolizes wealth, prosperity and happiness.

2014-2015 is the Year of the Horse. Birth years for this sign include 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002 and 2014.

Those born under this sign can struggle between a need for independence and a desire for close friendships. Their energy and fondness for travel can lead not only to restless wandering, but also to tireless work and ambition. Innate intelligence and quick wit makes it easy to pursue new projects.

Hong Kong 2013 Hong Kong Buses Lenticular Miniature Sheet

Hong Kong Post has issued a set of special stamps entitled "Hong Kong Buses" commemorating the different types of buses plying the different parts of Hong Kong. Also released was a HK$20 Stamp sheetlet in lithography with a lenticular effect. Three Euro V buses are set against a backdrop of the magnificent views of Victoria Harbour in the daytime, at twilight and at night to signify the round-the-clock bus services in Hong Kong.

South Africa 2004 - 75th Anniversary of Airmail Hologram miniature sheet

An attractive hologram foil miniature sheet celebrating World Post
Day and 75 years of South African airmail post was issued on 9 October. The hologram stamp shows a ‘flying’ dove and this is set against a sheet background of a DH60 Gipsy Moth aircraft.
