Indonesia 2016 Total Eclipse Miniature Sheet stamp with glow in the dark effect

Issue date 23 February 2016

Indonesian Post on Tuesday officially issued a Total Solar Eclipse special stamp on a miniature sheet with glow in the dark effect. A total solar eclipse occurred on March 9, 2016 and could only be seen from parts of Indonesia.

Total eclipses occur when the moon moves between the Earth and the Sun, and the three bodies align precisely.

The 2016 Total Solar Eclipse stamps consisted of three parts with the background of total solar eclipse chronology, combined with the Indonesian tale of Bathara Kala (God of Time) who swallowed the sun. In mythology, he causes eclipses by trying to eat the Sun or the Moon.

The stamps are special in that they glow in the dark under UV light.

The series of the stamps were also the first to be able simulated in Augmented Reality (AR) of total solar eclipse through Android gadgets in 4D-id application. When scanned using the AR app, a picture of the Balinese Hindu God Batara Kala (God of Time) about to swallow the Sun can be seen.
