Royal Mail has issued a special commemorative miniature sheet on the Weather with 4 stamps showing designs on rain, sunshine, storms and dry weather.

The 27p stamp featuring sunshine includes thermochromic ink, when the ink is touched or rubbed for a few seconds, the heat from the finger changes its color from reddish violet to light blue.

The “Nocturnal animals” special stamps issued by Swiss Post feature a dark night’s sky featuring four creatures of the night native to Switzerland: a brown owl, a garden dormouse, a large glow worm and a hedgehog. 4 stamp sheetlets were issued containing the four different nocturnal animals.

Under the cover of darkness, the nocturnal animals under the cover of darkness come out in search of their prey in the silvery moonlight - creeping, flying, feasting on their prey and attracting potential mates. Nature has provided these nocturnal animals with an acute sense of hearing, highly sensitive sight, organs of touch, radar-like systems, their own light sources and many other aids.

The stamp painting is from the famous Tang Dynasty painter Zhou Fang depicting the Ladies of the Court in their leisure lifestyle.

The stamp titled Court Ladies with Fan”(挥扇仕女图), depicts court ladies cooling off from the summer heat, watching others doing embroidery or making up their hair or face. The aristocratic ladies wear tall hairdos and silk dresses, long skirts and appear plump and indolent, in sharp contrast to the smaller build of the more spirited maid servants.


Length of stamp is 157mm Width 28 mm

Length of Souvenir sheet is 174 width 64 mm

Australia 2016 Asian International Stamp Exhibition 2016 Nanning China - Jewel Beetles

On the occasion of  2016 Asian International Stamp Exhibition was held from December 2 to December 6 in Nanning city China, Australia released a special set of stamps featuring the Jewel Beetles featuring:

Stigmodera gratiosa - a stunningly iridescent green jewel beetle that can be found feeding on the nectar of wildflowers in Western Australia. In Western Australia, all jewel beetles are protected under legislation (the Western Australian Wildlife Conservation Act 1950).

Castiarina klugii has a metallic colouration ranging from deep blue with yellow bands to deep purple with orange bands, depending on the light. Castiarina is a large and incredibly diverse genus of jewel beetle, though five species are listed as Data Deficient in Victoria. Castiarina klugii found in Victoria and New South Wales.

Temognatha alternata has distinctive yellow, green and red bands. It is endemic to Australia and is generally found on the east coast of Queensland. Four species of Temognatha beetles are listed as Vulnerable in Victoria and six species as Data Deficient, and Tasmania has listed one species as Endangered.

Julodimorpha bakewellii - a large jewel beetle, which can measure up to around 60 millimetres in length and is found in arid and semi-arid areas of New South Wales, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia.

The miniature sheets are odd shaped with embossing effect and stamps have been printed with holographic foil effect.

China 2016 Asian International Stamp Exhibition Stamp printed on Xuan Paper

China 2016 Asian International Stamp Exhibition was held from December 2 to December 6 in Nanning City. A special stamp printed on Xuan specialty paper was issued during the exhibition featuring a Bronze Phoenix Lantern, which is a Han Dynasty (206 BC 220) bronzeware discovered in the area and now displayed in the Guangxi Museum. The bronze lantern represents Guangxi 2000 years old civilisation which at some point in time was the starting point of the Maritime Silk Road.
