USA 2006 X plane Express Mail and Priority Mail Stamp

USPS has issued a special Express Mail Stamp USD 14.40 which features a side view of the X-15 plane and a Priority Mail stamp USD 4.05 featuring the X-15 rocket . The X on the stamp features holographic printing.
The X-planes were experimental U.S. aircraft created to test the technology of supersonic and space flight. The X-1 was the first plane to break the sound barrier (1947). There were only 3 X planes made and they flew 199 flights from 1959 to 1968 with only 13 flights exceeded 50 miles in altitude, the U.S. criterion for spaceflight. The pilots on those flights qualified as astronauts.
